The Manhattan Theatre Club production of DOUBT, the critically acclaimed new play by John Patrick Shanley, will open on Broadway on Thursday, March 31st at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). The production, directed by Doug Hughes, will begin previews on Wednesday, March 9th.
The Broadway production will star Cherry Jones as Sister Aloysius and Brían F. O'Byrne as Father Flynn, with Heather Goldenhersh as Sister James and Adriane Lenox as Mrs. Muller.
DOUBT will be produced on Broadway by Carole Shorenstein Hays, Manhattan Theatre Club (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer), Roger Berlind and Scott Rudin.
DOUBT is author John Patrick Shanley's first play to be produced on Broadway.
Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, DOUBT is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision. Should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues…even if she's not entirely certain of the truth?
Set design is by John Lee Beatty, costume design is by Catherine Zuber, lighting design is by Pat Collins, original music and sound design is by David Van Tieghem.
Performance schedule is Tuesday through Saturday at 8:00 PM, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 PM, and Sunday at 3:00 PM.

Broadway credits include Ain't Misbehavin', Dreamgirls, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Kiss Me Kate, The Buddy Holly Story. Off-Broadway audiences have seen her in Spunk, The Venus, The America Play, Dinah was… (Obie, Audelco Awards), Miss Evers' Boys, and Cavedweller. John Patrick Shanley (Playwright). John Patrick Shanley is from the Bronx. He was thrown out of St. Helena's kindergarten. He was banned from St. Anthony's hot lunch program for life. He was expelled from Cardinal Spellman High School. He was placed on academic probation by New York University and instructed to appear before a tribunal if he wished to return. When asked why he had been treated in this way by all these institutions, he burst into tears and said he had no idea. Then he went in the United States Marine Corps. He did fine. He's still doing okay.
Doug Hughes (Director) is resident director at MCC Theater, where he has directed Last Easter, Scattergood, Frozen, and The Grey Zone (Obie Award and Drama Desk nomination), co-produced Wit and received the first-ever MCC Award. Recent work in New York includes Engaged; Flesh and Blood (Callaway Award), The Beard of Avon and A Question of Mercy, all at NYTW; Othello (with Keith David and Liev Schreiber) at the Public; John Guare's Lake Hollywood at Signature; and An Experiment with An Air Pump for MTC. He has directed five productions for the Guthrie, where he also served as director of artistic planning.
