DOUBT, the winner of the 2005 Tony Award® and Pulitzer Prize for Best Play, will complete its triumphant Broadway run this Sunday, July 2. DOUBT, which is written by John Patrick Shanley and directed by Doug Hughes, will have played 525 performances, and 25 previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street). When it completes its run, DOUBT will be the fifth longest running play of the past 10 years.
DOUBT stars Eileen Atkins as Sister Aloysius and Ron Eldard as Father Flynn, with Jena Malone as Sister James and Adriane Lenox as Mrs. Muller.
Cherry Jones, who won a 2005 Tony Award® for Best Actress in a Play for her performance as Sister Aloysius, will headline a national tour of DOUBT, which will begin performances September 22 at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles.
DOUBT received the 2005 Tony Award® for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. DOUBT also received Tony Awards® for Best Direction of a Play (Doug Hughes) and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Adriane Lenox). DOUBT is also the winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Play, and the Drama League Award for Distinguished Production of a Play.
DOUBT was originally produced by Manhattan Theatre Club Off-Broadway at Stage I at NY City Center, where it opened November 23, 2004 to rave reviews, and played for 101 performances through January 30, 2005. The production began performances on Broadway on March 9, 2005 and opened on March 31, 2005 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. The Broadway production is produced by Carole Shorenstein Hays; MTC Productions, Inc. (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer); Roger Berlind; and Scott Rudin.
Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, DOUBT is the Story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision. Should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues…even if she's not entirely certain of the truth?
