NBC's "Today Show" will feature a piece on the critically acclaimed play, DOUBT, by John Patrick Shanley. The piece will run on Thursday, May 12. In New York, the "Today Show" runs from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM on WNBC-TV, Channel 4. Check local listings.
The "Today Show" story will feature interviews with playwright John Patrick Shanley and Sister Margaret McEntee, Shanley's first grade teacher at St. Anthony's School in the Bronx. Sister Margaret, formerly known as Sister James, was the inspiration for the character of Sister James played by actress Heather Goldenhersh in DOUBT. The "Today Show" interview also features an interview with Goldenhersh.
DOUBT is the winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The production, directed by Doug Hughes, is playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street).
Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, DOUBT is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision. Should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues…even if she's not entirely certain of the truth?
The production stars Cherry Jones as Sister Aloysius and Brían F. O'Byrne as Father Flynn, with Heather Goldenhersh as Sister James and Adriane Lenox as Mrs. Muller.
DOUBT is produced by Carole Shorenstein Hays, MTC Productions Inc. (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer), Roger Berlind and Scott Rudin. DOUBT is author John Patrick Shanley's first play to be produced on Broadway.
Set design is by John Lee Beatty, costume design is by Catherine Zuber, lighting design is by Pat Collins, original music and sound design is by David Van Tieghem.
Performance schedule is Tuesday through Saturday at 8:00 PM, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 PM, and Sunday at 3:00 PM.
