he World Series of Comedy celebrates its Sixth Anniversary as America's largest comedy contest and the search is on for the best comedian in the United States and Canada. Beyond the other prizes and notoriety, this year's champion will also be awarded fifty weeks of bookings in comedy clubs all over America and Canada! The WCOC has also established itself as a great comedy festival with celebrities, talent bookers, industry moguls and educational seminars. It's also a great place for comedians to network.
The World Series of Comedy runs September 21-26th at The Tuscany Casino in Las Vegas, NV On Sept 25th at 11:00am, Don Barnhart will hold an "Entertaining The Troops" seminar where comics can learn what it takes to go overseas to entertain the troops. Barnhart has been producing and performing for the troops since his first USO tour in 1992.
You may not know Barnhart by name but you should as he performs over 300 day a year on the road and much of that has been dedicated to entertaining our troops around the world and last year he was one of the featured headliners at the Laughlin Comedy Festival. Don is currently in negotiations to become a resident headliner in Las Vegas. Barnhart got his start in comedy and truly worked his way up the comedy ladder.
During the 80's, Don started out as a doorman at The Comedy & Magic Club and by the time he was 20, he was the house emcee, manager and talent coordinator where he worked with and booked most of today's comedy superstars. If you want to know the truth, this is the seminar to attend, as Barnhart will speak frankly on the requirements, hurdles and pitfalls of entertaining the military. "Far too many comics think that they can just 'wing it' and do their thing' but it's much more complicated than that", said Barnhart from a recent phone interview. "Entertaining the troops is a great experience and everyone should do it if they have the chance but you really need to know what you're getting into before even considering it".
Over the last decade, Don Barnhart Entertainment has produced tours featuring comedy legend George Wallace, The All Star Comedy Tour and American Idol finalist James Durbin and Don himself has performed in war zones from Bosnia to Afghanistan. Barnhart was also a consultant for the USO Comedy Break Series and has toured for Comics On Duty, Armed Forces Entertainment as continues to produce and perform at the military bases around the world. Barnhart will be headlining Vegas with his DeEvolution of Man Comedy Tour prior to the World Series of Comedy and will be heading out on another world tour to entertain the troops once again right after the WSOC. Barnhart's DeEvolution of Man Comedy Tour is as entertaining as it is poignant.
Recently named "Best Bet" by the Las Vegas Review Journal, Don Barnhart's DeEvolution of Man tour is part one man show, part stand up and full on funny and the award-winning comedian keeps audiences of all ages howling with laughter and coming back for more. A modern day "cave man", Don Barnhart takes audiences on a comedy thrill ride exploring the waning tide of male gender identification and man's declining role in modern day society in a way that is hysterical, highly entertaining and thought provoking.
Barnhart's videos have close to a million hits on YouTube. Over the last year, Barnhart's film career has really been gaining steam as he stars in the documentary, Finding The Funny with Brad Garret and Louie Anderson and plays a rather disgruntled, road weary and carefree comedian in the upcoming comedy film, Tribute to Fluffy. Don just wrapped production on the cannabis comedy Reefer Rendum and is currently in preproduction on the new comedy film, The Freeloader, which he wrote and stars in. The movie will begin shooting in Las Vegas at the end of 2015 and is based on Barnhart's book of the same name. Barnhart's character, a returning Vet, becomes the Robin Hood of the Homeless as he finds his way back into society.
Barnhart created the Las Vegas Comedy Institute and in his spare time, he teaches and coaches stand up, improv and comedy writing workshops. If you would like to attend Barnhart's seminar or would like more information on The World Series of Comedy, please visit: http://theworldseriesofcomedy.com.
