Dominique Lévy, former US director of private sales of 20th century and contemporary art for Christie's and currently a founding partner of L&M Arts, announced today that she will open a new gallery in New York City in spring 2013.
Dominique Lévy Gallery will specialize in masterworks of post-war art and important contemporary art, in both the primary and secondary markets. The gallery will present a program of curated exhibitions that range from thematic historical surveys to showcases of exceptional new work by living artists. It also will focus upon private sales in the secondary market; produce key publications; provide advisory and collections management services; and participate in art fairs internationally.
Lévy's experience with post-war art – she is regarded a leading expert in the work of such figures as Yves Klein, Piet Mondrian, Alberto Giacometti, and Alexander Calder - will shape the character of her gallery's program. At the same time, Dominique Lévy Gallery will provide a platform for living artists, including younger emerging talents, to experiment with new ideas and forms of expression.
While Lévy and her L&M Arts co-founder Robert Mnuchin will operate separate New York City galleries as of January 2013, they will continue to run L&M Los Angeles together as a team. L&M's California space opened to applause in 2010, helping to catalyze the burgeoning gallery scene and expanding market for important post-war art in Southern California.
As of January, L&M's New York City space at 45 East 78th Street will be known as Mnuchin Gallery.
