A stage reading of Seriously Trivial People Doing Thoroughly Stupid Things, Montserrat Mendez's award-winning sequel to The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Jeremy Dobrish, will be held Monday, December 7, 2009 at 4:30 pm at The Actors Temple Theatre.

Seriously Trivial People Doing Thoroughly Stupid Things picks up seven years after the events of Oscar Wilde's classic play. Their marriages stale, Gwendolen and Cecily suspect their husbands Jack and Algernon of having an affair with Bibi LaFlam, an alluring cabaret singer. The ladies go undercover as attorneys Ernest and Ernest to spy on their husbands at their exclusive men's club, but when they are invited back to their homes to meet themselves, complications of the grandest order ensue. The production includes several roles played by the opposite gender, including Robert Stanton in the role of Lady Bracknell.

Montserrat Mendez received the Outstanding Playwrighting Award at the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival for the play. Back Stage hailed it as "a comic masterwork" while Time Out New York raved that it is "the rare sequel that doesn't disappoint."

Directed by Jeremy Dobrish (Election Day, Judas and Me), Seriously Trivial People Doing Thoroughly Stupid Things stars Amanda Quaid (Equus) as Gwendolen Worthing; Jenny Fellner (Pal Joey) as Cecily Moncrieff; Peter Bradbury (A Man for All Seasons) as Merriman/Chasuble; Leo Ash Evens (West End revival, West Side Story) as Algernon Moncrieff; Demond Green (The Toxic Avenger) as Bibi LaFlam; Jamie LaVerdiere (The Producers) as Jack Worthing; Synge Maher (Thoroughly Stupid Things, 2008 FringeNYC) as Inspector Franco Raynier; Robert Stanton (The Coast of Utopia) as Lady Bracknell and Sally Wilfert (The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) as Miss Prism.
