As BWW reported last week, in the hours leading up to Monday night's first presidential debate, the actors from NBC's beloved comedy WILL & GRACE, Megan Mullally, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes and Eric McCormack, reprised their characters of Will, Grace, Karen and Jack in a scene about the 2016 election. Taking place in Will's hip New York apartment, the foursome discussed politics, throwing their support behind candidate Hillary Clinton (well most of them anyway!). Check out the video!
An article recently featured in Slate.com suggests that the hilarious video may be only the tip of the iceberg, and that a full season of the show may be in the works. The site bases their theory on three clues that have recently emerged.
First, Karen's maid Rosario makes a split-second appearance in a sub-plot story arc at the very end of the video, suggesting that perhaps the cameo was sliced from a much-longer scene. Asks Slate's Mark Joseph Stern, "Why go through the trouble of creating this B-plot if its only payoff is a disjointed, last-second cameo? Unless the producers decided to slice a huge chunk out of the reunion clip, Rosario's appearance suggests there's a great deal more material that we've not yet seen."
Secondly, Stern points to the massive effort that was undertaken to recreate Will's apartment to a tee. Details such as paintings, teapots and sculptures made a re-appearance in the supposed one-time only reunion. Asks Stern, "why spend so much time and money recreating this iconic set for a short clip? Sure, it could just be high production value for a high-profile reunion segment. But the likelier explanation is that the show will produce actual new episodes-perhaps, a whole new season-but took advantage of the set to quickly shoot a topical clip to tease fans on debate day."
Finally, there is the fact that McCormack himself tweeted a photo of a script titled "Hot Food." According to Stern, the "bulk" of the script appears to be quite substantial, suggesting it may be that of a full half-hour television episode.
What are your thoughts on a WILL & GRACE reunion season? Created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, WILL AND GRACE followed the relationship between best friends Will Truman (Eric McCormack), a gay lawyer, and Grace Adler (Debra Messing), a straight interior designer. It was broadcast on NBC from September 21, 1998 to May 18, 2006, for a total of eight seasons. During its original run, "Will & Grace" was one of the most successful television series with gay principal characters. All four actors have appeared on Broadway in recent years. Megan Mullally recently starred in IT'S ONLY A PLAY, while Hayes took on the role of God in AN ACT OF GOD. In 2012, McCormack appeared in THE BEST MAN and Messing made her Broadway debut in the 2014 romantic comedy OUTSIDE MULLINGAR.Videos
