Dixon Place To Host Reading Of HOOK LINE SINKER, A New Play Exploring Internet Clickbait Image

Emerging playwright Jacob Grover will have a reading of his new play "Hook Line Sinker" on the Dixon Place mainstage on February 3rd, 2018 at 7:30pm. The reading will be directed by Stephanie Wurster and feature Grover, Jacob Dysart, Nicole Kang, and Kelly Krauter.

The play centers on the inner workings of a content aggregation site. New-hire Matthew falls under the spell of the enigmatic Fergus, CEO of clickbait company Petti Media and specialist in all things viral. Their co-worker Grace is a talented but disenchanted content generator whose immigration status is tied to her continued employment at a company she despises, until she realizes that the only thing stronger than her desire to leave is Matthew's determination to stay. With the company in a clandestine state of crisis, Fergus lectures his staff on the flexible morality of the internet and the absolute importance of site traffic, a message that resonates with some more than others. The piece attempts to put a human face on an increasingly impersonal online phenomenon and questions who (and what) can be trusted on the internet.
