Dicapo Opera Theatre Features Rosenthal Trio

Dicapo Opera Theatre presents the Ted Rosenthal Trio in celebration of their new CD release "Impromptu" on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 4 pm.

Impromptu is a set of Rosenthal's reimaginings of classical themes by Brahms, Schumann, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and more, for jazz trio. "The sound was maddeningly familiar. Co-founded in 1981 by Michael Capasso and Diane Martindale, Dicapo Opera Theatre presents a full season of opera productions, musical theater, concerts, dance, jazz and other events in its own 204-seat facility located on the lower level of St. Jean Baptiste Church on East 76th Street.  
 
Ted Rosenthal has performed worldwide, both as a leader and as a sideman with many jazz greats, including Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Bob Brookmeyer, and James Moody.    A first-prize winner of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition, Rosenthal has released 12 CDs as a leader. His CD The 3 B's, music of Bud Powell, Bill Evans and improvisations on Beethoven themes, received a 4-star review in DownBeat.  A recipient of three grants from the NEA, Rosenthal composes large-scale works as well as jazz tunes.  He composed music for Uptown, for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, premiered in its '09 -'10 season at NY City Center and now touring throughout the world.  He is currently composing his 2nd jazz piano concerto, commissioned by the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony with whom he will perform it in New York City in May, 2011.  http://www.tedrosenthal.com
