Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C) have announced they will present A WELL STARING AT THE SKY for their spring season. The series of short performances, written by Stephen Gracia and directed by Michael LoPorto, will form the second half of D3C's seventh season of independent theatre in Greenwich Village. The first installment starts at 8pm on Thursday, February 22, downstairs at Mr. Dennehy's on 63 Carmine Street, New York, NY 10014. Admission is free with a $5 suggested donation.
Gracia was influenced by "The Book of Disquiet" by Fernando Pessoa and "The King In Yellow" by Robert Chambers in developing the second part of D3C's seventh season. He explained that A WELL STARING AT THE SKY "gathers a series of fragments" under that title. Each performance of the season features short plays with characters "at a point of crisis or loss, seeking self-realization or total annihilation. In these plays, there are no resolutions, only more questions."
The spring season of D3C will also feature actors from the Brooklyn College BFA in acting program, pairing them with industry professionals to expand the opportunities for the students to perform prior to their senior year. This is D3C's third year partnering with Brooklyn College, alma mater of D3C co-founders Gracia and LoPorto.
All proceeds from donations and merchandise sales collected at performances for the spring season will benefit various charities. Money raised at the February installment of A WELL STARING AT THE SKY will be donated to Trans Lifeline, a toll-free hotline founded to provide "front line intervention for trans people in crisis." The organization works to "empower trans people to help one another...to end transgender suicide and improve overall mental health of transgender people."
Gracia and LoPorto co-founded D3C at Mr. Dennehy's in 2011. Previous D3C shows have featured musicians, poets, and burlesque performers. They've also partnered with local independent theatre groups such as BrooklynONE to produce innovative and challenging free theatre to New York City.
