On the heals of the sell-out Detroit Concert For A Cure, The Cast of “Hairspray” will host a second gala event, “Detroit Concert for a Cure II,” at the Gem Theatre on Monday, May 9 (7 p.m.). “Hairspray” cast members (who can also be seen April 26 – May 15 at the Masonic Temple Theatre) will be joined by special guests, including local celebrities, Detroit Together Men’s Chorus, students from Oakland University, Juliana’s Academy of Dance and local high school students. The evening will be hosted by Broadway Celebrity Scott Nevins. Tickets are now on sale and all proceeds from the evening’s event (tickets and silent auction) will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA).
In addition to selling out, The first “Detroit Concert For A Cure” raised more than $9,500 for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS and more than $400 for the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project.
Guests attending the “Detroit Concert for a Cure II” fundraiser will enjoy an evening of music & dance as the cast of “Hairspray” performs some of their favorite numbers, including Broadway classics and original compositions. A silent auction (6 PM through the end of intermission), Midwest AIDS Prevention Project benefit raffle, and an afterglow at the Century Grille with appetizers and music by Dry Bones Jazz Band will also be part of the festivities.
Tickets ($35) are now on sale and may be purchased at The Gem Theatre box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may also be charged by phone at 248-645-6666 or on-line at www.Ticketmaster.com. A group rate (for groups of 8 or more) is also available through the Gem Theatre box office. The Gem Theatre is located at 333 Madison Avenue (at Brush) in downtown Detroit.
