National Theatre's upcoming production of ANGELS IN AMERICA has doubled down on its star power.
The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye reports that Denise Gough (who just took home a 2016 Olivier earlier this week) and stage and screen veteran Russell Tovey have signed on to join previously announced Andrew Garfield in the 2017 production of the beloved Tony Kushner play.
Gough will take on the role of Harper Pitt, with Tovey playing Joe Pitt. Garfield is set as Prior Walter.
The production is slated to begin performances on April 20, 2017 at Lyttelton Theatre.
RUSSELL TOVEY just concluded a run in A View From the Bridge on Broadway, after previously appearing on the Great White Way in the National Theatre production of The History Boys playing Rudge, the role he originated in London and subsequently performed around the world. He reprised the role in the film version of the play, directed by Nicholas Hytner. Tovey's other theatre credits include Howard Katz, Henry V, His Girl Friday and His Dark Materials (National Theatre); Plasticine, A Miracle and The Pass (Royal Court Theatre); The Sea andSex With A Stranger (London's West End). His film credits include Pride, Grabbers, The Pass, Mindhorn, and the upcoming The Lady in The Van. His television credits include the role of Kevin in HBO's "Looking," "The Night Manager," "Being Human," "Banished," "Sherlock," "Doctor Who," "Little Dorrit," "Him and Her," and "The Job Lot."
Gough has also appeared onstage in AHASVERUS at the RSC, the West End's JESUS HOPPED THE A TRAIN, SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR, AS YOU LIKE IT and BY THE BOG OF CATS and more.
