The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York announced the premiere of "ASCENSION...I am not my Mother," an independent film written and produced by Saint Lucian Demedrius Charles. Part of a month-long celebration commemorating Saint Lucia's 36th anniversary of independence, the premiere is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 6:00PM at the Taipei Economic and Culture Center, located at 1 E 42nd Street, Manhattan, New York. This distinguished event will also feature NIGHT JAZMIN Perfumes V.I.P giveaways from NIGHT JAZMIN PRODUCTIONS.
The New York debut of Charles's "ASCENSION" follows last year's successful premiere of "Poetry is an Island," a documentary film chronicling the life and works of the Hon. Derek Walcott, Saint Lucian Nobel Laureate. Charles is a playwright and poet, having to his credit two shows made for television and two off-Broadway productions. His highly acclaimed works include "Broken" (directed by Courtney Everette) and the web series "Marcello" (directed by Charles himself).Charles also wrote and co-produced "Le Chateau," a play performed with an enthusiastic reception at the Paul Robeson Theater in Brooklyn, as well as "Matters of the Heart," which played at the American Theater of Actors in Manhattan. Charles has also authored three poetry collections, including "Shades of Emotions" and "Dancing with the Imagination," published by Xlibris and available at www.demedriuscharles.com.
Charles's latest film features Lady Elizabeth, a beautiful and sensitive soul, who is able to paint vivid images with her crafty words for an admiring audience. Elizabeth's world, however, is filled with pain as she is haunted by her past and trapped in an abusive relationship with Caleb, her tyrannical husband. In spite of her constant turmoil, Elizabeth finds solace in her writing and an escape in a world where her imagination can influence good or evil.
Admission to the premiere is free, but reserving a seat is strongly recommended. The Consulate General invites all to support the works of fellow Saint Lucian Charles and to participate in ongoing Independence 36 celebrations.
