December Events Announced at Green Space! ImageGreen Space is pleased to announce a diverse roster of new/emerging artists for its signature programs this September. "With a backdrop of the Manhattan skyline twinkling through the tall, dusty windows of a former silk factory, both established and emerging NY choreographers show off their most recent works." -Queens Chronicle

TAKE ROOT, now in its 9th season, cultivates dance of varying aesthetics by producing choreographers' work in a full-length or paired-work evening. This monthly series supports dance makers by providing our venue, Green Space, along with full technical and marketing support to present their work to the NYC public.

About the Work

Creators Megan Doyle, Courtney Laine Self and Stephen Cyr present an adaptation of PULLMAN CAR HIAWATHA by Thornton Wilder. This adaptation incorporates contemporary dance and physical theater techniques into the vocabulary and fabric of Wilder's innovative piece. The all-female cast includes Emma Lou DeLaney, Heather Childs, Madeline Shaffer, Nicole Mayes, Rachel Kodweis, Rachel Snyder, Jessica Mosher and Samm Carroll and is presented with permission from the Wilder Estate.

SHIFT Dance Collective's Head-Space is a movement explorative piece that demonstrates how negative stigmas, misconceptions, and stereotypes surrounding mental illness affect the relationships of those who suffer from it as well as their loved ones. Audio includes musical recordings and original spoken word poetry by Gabriella Bruno.

Company/ Choreographer Biographies

Megan Doyle, Courtney Laine Self, and Stephen Cyr collaborate to challenge, interrupt and inspire the melding of movement and text to create new and innovative theater. This year Megan, Courtney, and Stephen have created works for Green Space, Dixon Place, and 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center. The works have included adaptations of Twelfth Night and The Tempest, The Kandinsky Project, and a full length dance musical, BKJT. They are currently the resident artists for 92nd Street Y Musical Theater Development Lab and developing their second full length musical that will premier this April.

SHIFT Dance Collective, founded in November 2016, is a Brooklyn-based dance company created and directed by Gabriella Bruno. SHIFT is a collective for networking and collaboration, a vessel through which the artists involved will be able to make real connections with their audiences. While SHIFT is predominantly dance-focused, we intend to draw on exploring heavy collaborative effort from other artistic mediums such as music, visual art, spoken word, and more.

FERTILE GROUND has supported the emerging and established artists' community for 12 seasons, showcasing the work of over 50 choreographers each year. The non-curated program features five dance makers each evening and includes a post-performance discussion with wine, moderated by Green Space's Artistic Director, Valerie Green.
