"Live at Barnes & Noble," the in-store performance series, welcomes host Ted Chapin, joined by Broadway's Debra Monk, Brandon Victor Dixon and Betsy Wolfe, with Andy Einhorn on piano, as they turn back the clock to the heyday of the legendary Stage Door Canteens of the 1940s, and perform selections from the acclaimed new DRG recording, Stage Door Canteen: Broadway Responds to World War II.
Following the performance, the participants will sign copies of the CD. The in-store event is open to the public and will take place at Barnes and Noble Upper East Side (150 East 86th Street) on Wednesday April 11 at 5:00 p.m. Note: Participants will sign STAGE DOOR CANTEEN: BROADWAY RESPONDS TO WORLD WAR II only. This new CD, produced by Hugh Fordin, is drawn from Ted Chapin's highly-lauded Lyrics & Lyricists program at New York's 92nd Street Y. Inspired by the American Theatre Wing's Stage Door Canteen initiative, it presents a wide selection of musical responses to World War II from giants of the musical stage and screen such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Frank Loesser and Irving Berlin. Performers Monk, Dixon and Wolfe will sing numbers that both entertained and inspired wartime music lovers, and continue to do so today.
