A WILL & GRACE reunion is brewing on the set of NBC's THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA.
ET reports that star Debra Messing "would cry with joy if any of my castmates were able to come on the show. That's an open invitation!"
Messing regularly talks to stage and screen vets and WILL & GRACE alums Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes. Plus, her sitcom best friend Eric McCormack appeared in the first season of 'LAURA'.
Messing added that she "would love for [Mullally] to play something completely against type. [Megan is] an extraordinary actress -- I think people just want her to be funny or just want her to be extreme. I would love her to play a murderer that is very subtle and very complicated."
Messing made her Broadway debut last year in OUTSIDE MULLINGAR and is well known for her role on NBC's cult musical drama SMASH. Tony nominee Hayes starred opposite Kristin Chenoweth in 2011's PROMISES, PROMISES on Broadway and also appeared on SMASH with Messing.
Mullally recently took the New York stage in IT'S ONLY A PLAY and off-Broadway in ANNAPURNA with her husband, fellow actor and comedian, Nick Offerman. Among her past Broadway credits are YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING and GREASE.
ABOUT THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA: Detective Laura Diamond (Emmy Award-winner Debra Messing) can't help that she's the smartest homicide detective in all of NYPD. She just... is. So smart in fact that she manages to solve the most perplexing of murders even while managing to raise two young boys as a single mom. Laura gets some help from her ex-husband Jake Broderick (Josh Lucas), who spent the last year as her boss at the Second Precinct, but, in the wake of a near-fatal injury and a power struggle, may have to return to the precinct in a different capacity. Laura's work life and personal life are forever intertwined, with her ex forever trying to win her back, which would involve prying her away from her very sexy new chef boyfriend, Tony (Neal Bledsoe). Season 2 of "The Mysteries of Laura" amps up the stakes with edgy, dramatic cases, combined with a relationship triangle as suspenseful as the mysteries the cops solve each week. The cast also includes Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, Max Jenkins and Callie Thorne.
Writer Jeff Rake ("Boston Legal") and director McG ("Supernatural") serve as executive producers with Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters"), Aaron Kaplan ("The Neighbors"), Todd Lituchy and Sarah Schechter. "The Mysteries of Laura" is a production of Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions and Kapital Entertainment.
