Barrington Stage Company, the award-winning regional theatre in downtown Pittsfield, Massachusetts, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director TriStan Wilson, is celebrating BSC's New Works Initiative with a BSC in NYC Benefit on Monday, November 4 at 6pm at the American Airlines Theatre Penthouse (227 West 42nd Street). The BSC New Works Initiative was launched in 2012 with Mark St. Germain's world premiere Dr. Ruth, All the Way, now entitled Becoming Dr. Ruth.
The Barrington Stage Company production of Becoming Dr. Ruth is directed by Julianne Boyd and stars Debra Jo Rupp ("That 70's Show") as Dr. Ruth, and is based on the life of America's most famous sex therapist, Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer. It is now playing Off Broadway at The Westside Theatre, 407 West 43rd Street, NYC. This special evening begins with a cocktail party in the Penthouse of the American Airlines Theatre, followed by BSC Associate Artist Debra Jo Rupp performing excerpts from the upcoming New York premiere of Becoming Dr. Ruth. It will be followed by Debra Jo Rupp interviewing Dr. Ruth about the play and her career as a sex therapist. The New Works Initiative is a vital Barrington Stage Company program that funds the creation of new plays and musicals - the heart and soul of vibrant theater. Over the years, BSC has moved nine of its original works to stages in New York City, including the award-winning productions The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Freud's Last Session.
Tickets start at $250 and may be ordered online at www.barringtonstageco.org. For further information or to purchase tickets over the phone, contact Janie LaBrasca, BSC in NYC coordinator, at 413-997-6118.
