Red Light District will present the world premiere of Ascension by Edmund De Santis at Off-Broadway's The Lion Theatre (Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street). Previews will begin on Friday, October 6th for an opening on Wednesday, October 11th. It will play a limited engagement through October 21st.
Ascension will be directed by Red Light District artistic director Marc Geller and will star Stephen Hope (Joseph..., The Scarlet Pimpernel), Lucy McMichael (More Than This at Urban Stages) and Brandon Ruckdashel (My Super Ex-Girlfriend). It will feature sets by Aaron Mastin and costumes by Dennis Ballard.
Ascension is "about an ambitious Catholic priest struggle to hold together the fabric of the world he has created to keep his desires at bay. He is confronted by the schizophrenic wife of a butcher, who accuses him of sexually abusing her son eight years earlier. Then drawn into a web of evil and deceit comes a visit by the angelic young man, himself; and now their worlds unfolds with a volcano of desire that is close to exploding," according to production notes.
De Santis is the author of many plays, including Making Peter Pope, The Language of Kisses, More Than This, and the award-winning Recensio and American Subway. His play Tornado Rosaries is also scheduled to open in the fall in New York.
