Working in a wide range of forms - digital, text, sound, sculpture, performance and painting - Davide Balula seeks to investigate the evolution and instability of matter over time, often utilizing natural phenomena to produce his works.
PAINTING THE ROOF OF YOUR MOUTH (ICE CREAM) is an edible retrospective in the form of ice cream, where each flavor represents a painting series from Balula's œuvre. Derived from natural elements - including burnt wood, dirt, algae and river sediments, which the artist employed as pigments in the Burnt Paintings, River Paintings and Buried Paintings,
respectively - the ice cream flavors are produced in collaboration with Michelin Award-winning chef Daniel Burns.
Burns is the former pastry chef of Noma in Copenhagen and now the chef/owner of Tørst and Luksus in Brooklyn, New York.
With special thanks to Daniel Burns.
