David Scala's AMONG THE FURIES to Premiere at New York Theatre Festival

AMONG THE FURIES, written by David Scala, an award-winning filmmaker making his playwriting debut, will have its World Premiere at the New York Theatre Festival.

Scala will also direct, with Katherine Paige as producer, Kat M. Norton as stage manager, Andrew McCourt as set designer, and CharLes Davis as lighting & sound technician.

AMONG THE FURIES will play a limited engagement as part of the New York Theater Festival at Off-Broadway's Hudson Guild Theatre ( 411 W. 26th St., NY, NY 10001). Performances begin Tuesday, August 8, and continue until Sunday , August 13.

During the night of a Southern house party, two couples from vastly different upbringings meet to discuss a prospective job opportunity. As curt formalities evolve into unexpected revelations, each couple attempts to keep their secrets in the past, as they begin realizing they may have more dangerously in common than they originally thought.

The production features Joseph R. Thomas as Henry; Claire Ganshert as Vera, Scott T. Freeman as Aaron; and Toni Benedict as Penny.

The production is written & directed by David Scala, produced by Katherine Paige, stage managed by Kat M. Norton , and features scenic design by Andrew McCourt. Charles Davis is the lighting and sound technician.

TONI BENEDICT (Penny) graduated with a bachelors in Theater Performance from VCU, soon thereafter moving to Chicago where she was a regular performer with All Hype Productions and TV improv troupe, Schtick Figures. David Scala ( Playwright & Director ) received his BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in Film & TV Production. His short film THE SANDMAN (2010) was nominated for Best Narrative Short (Director's Circle), and won Best Achievement in Cinematography (New Visions and Voices). His second short film I DON'T KNOW, ALASKA! (2012) was an original musical comedy, for which he served as writer, director, and lyricist. The film won top prizes at festivals including Best Film, Best Actress, and Best Sound Design. His short film GROTTO (2013) tackled LGBT issues and screened at over 35 festivals nationally and abroad, including the Palm Springs ShortFest, Boston LGBT Film Fest, and Festival MIX Brasil. Mr. Scala won the award for Outstanding Emerging Talent at FilmOUT San Diego as writer & director for this film. His most recent short film CONTENDER (2015) takes a narrative approach to promoting hunger and poverty awareness in the US. As a screenwriter, Mr. Scala's feature screenplays have been finalists for the Sundance Screenwriting Lab, Hamptons Film Festival Screenwriting Lab, and the NYU/Sloan Feature Film Award. Katherine Paige (Producer) is a filmmaker and producer in New York City with a BFA with honors from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Film & Television Program. In 2012 she produced her first TV pilot, The Devil's Bitch, and won Official Selection at the Friar's Club Comedy Film Festival, before being picked up by Playbill.com as a web-series. She has produced sold-out concert cabarets at Feinstein's/54 Below & Joe's Pub, and produced season one of Broadwayworld.com web-series 'Turning The Tables' featuring top casting directors from Telsey+Co and Tara Rubin Casting. Additionally, she produced 2 feature films, numerous shorts and music videos, and is shopping around her digital horror series 'Stream No Evil' for distribution. Katherine currently works on Orange Is The New Black.

KAT NORTON (Stage Manager) is a recent graduate of Syracuse University where she earned her BFA in stage management. Her previous credits include Laura and the Sea at SU Drama, A Little Night Music at the Syracuse Opera and The UnCivil War at the Adirondack Theatre Festival. She was also the 2016 Production Intern for the Lincoln Center Festival. Kat is thrilled to working on this riveting show with such wonderful people.

ANDREW MCCOURT (Set Designer) is a New York-based designer and artist originally from Austin, Texas. An alum of the Savannah College of Art & Design, he was a winner of the Congressional Art Competition, and his artwork was displayed at the U.S. Capitol for a year. His previous work includes visual display at Anthropologie, architectural design in London, and interior architecture at multiple New York firms. Top projects he has contributed to are the H&M Tent at Coachella 2015, and pop-up shops across China for Nicola Formichetti. He continues to pursue design in various capacities, including architecture, objects, and fashion.
