In 2011, BroadwayWorld reported that Brian Hargrove and Barbara Anselmi's new musical IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU, directed by David Hyde Pierce in its world premiere at the George Street Playhouse that year, would be coming to Broadway.
Now according to an Equity casting notice, it seems like the show will indeed land on Broadway, with rehearsals set to begin in January 2015. The musical will open on or around March 26, 2015.
The New Jersey production starred Lisa Howard, Tom Deckman, Mylinda Hull, Tyne Daly, Richard Kline, Jessica Hershberg, and more. No official announcement has been made concerning casting .
IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU is a musical comedy for anyone with parents. The bride is Jewish. The groom is Catholic. Her mother is a force of nature, his mother is a tempest in a cocktail shaker. And when the bride's ex-boyfriend shows up, the perfect wedding starts to unravel faster than you can whistle "Here Comes the Bride!"
The remainder of the creative team consisted of choreographer Noah Racey, music director Greg Anthony and three-time Tony Award-winning orchestrator Douglas Besterman.
As a performer, Pierce won the 2007 Tony Award (Best Actor in a Musical) for his performance in CURTAINS. He also received a Tony nomination for his performance in 'VANYA AND SONIA' on Broadway, and a special Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award in 2010 for his work with the Alzheimer's Association.
On television, Pierce is best known for his multiple Emmy and SAG Award-winning role as Niles on TV's iconic comedy "Frasier." His film credits include "Little Man Tate," "Sleepless in Seattle," "Nixon," "Down With Love," and the Sundance Film Festival Selection, "The Perfect Host."
His directing credits also include a gangster-themed THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
