According to The Scotsman, producer David Gest, perhaps best known for once being married to Liza Minnelli, has pulled out of the world premiere of the new musical ROBERT BURNS THE MUSICAL, a tribute to the life of the famed Scottish poet. The show is scheduled to open in Aberdeen's Tivoli Theatre on January 25th.

Gest put together the idea for the show back in the 1990's with the help of his famous friend Michael Jackson. The twosome created the soundtrack for the original musical, titled 'Red Red Rose,' featuring 12 songs adapted from the works of the great poet.

Since that time, the show has taken on the name 'One Fond Kiss,' before being given its current moniker. The production will be performed by Lossiemouth-based Rock Academy. While at first, Gest was to have a small cameo role as Tam O' Shanter, he is now unable to appear due to scheduling conflicts. Tish Tindall, who penned the show, will take over the part. Commented Tindall, "When he [David Gest] asked me if he could be in the show, we decided a cameo role would be the best because of his busy schedule. He is planning on joining us at a later date, but we have not announced any further performances as yet."

She continues, "People all over the world have asked me about the show, it will bring Robert Burns into the 21st century. For a wee lassie from Inverurie to be involved in taking forward something which started off as their idea is just unimaginable. I really did fight to keep the premiere in the northeast."

A spokesman for Mr Gest commented, "David has made every effort to move his filming commitment but unfortunately the TV company have a very strict schedule to adhere to which they are unable to change. David would like to wish the rest of the cast every success with the production and is looking forward to appearing with you at a later stage in the production."
