David Friedman and the "Nancy LaMott Sings David Zippel" team have started a fundraising campaign for a new album by the gifted and beloved late singer Nancy LaMott, called "Nancy LaMott Sings David Zippel." It is a collection of rare performances of Nancy singing songs with lyrics by her dear friend, Tony Award winning and Academy Award nominated lyricist David Zippel.
It will include many never-before-heard recordings of classics such as, You Can Always Count on Me (from City of Angels), Until You Let Go (The Original themesong that David and Marvin Hamlisch wrote for the movie Frankie & Johnny, with Marvin at the piano), How Can I Win? (from The Goodbye Girl) and many more of David Zippel's legendary collaborations with composers such as Cy Coleman, Doug Katsaros, Wally Harper, Jonathan Scheffer, Bryon Sommers and even David Friedman.
Nancy was well on her way to becoming a household name when she tragically lost her battle with uterine cancer almost 19 years ago. Since then, David Friedman has worked to keep her memory and music alive by personally financing the cost of album production. But now, he is turning to the platform of IndieGoGo to raise funds.
With just under a month left to go, they've raised over $30,000 of our $50,000 goal, and have been astonished at the wave of support from their contributors. This money will go to studio and engineering costs, artwork, royalties, musician payments, manufacturing and shipping. Extra funds are needed for restoration, as many of these vintage recordings were originally captured on cassette or early video tape, and need meticulous and time-consuming restoration.
The minimum contribution is $20, which is essentially an advance order for the CD. If you decide to give more than the minimum, which of course they hope you will, they have come up with all sorts of ways to thank and acknowledge you for your participation, ranging from great free stuff, to being listed as a producer, to having dinner with David Zippel and David Friedman, to having them write you a custom song. They're also open to any reasonable requests. All the options are listed on the IndieGoGo page, so take a look and see what works for you.
On the campaign page, Friedman explains, "I had the great good fortune of working with Nancy LaMott for the last 6 years of her life. Through that time, I developed a deep appreciation for Nancy as an artist and as a friend; as did virtually everyone who heard her or watched her perform. She was a truly one of a kind...With your help, we will be able to produce and properly promote a CD that will stand the test of time as a classic among the greats."
"Crowdfunding this project would be a dream come true. All of Nancy's fans, past, present and future, would be making history by bringing her extraordinary voice and enduring spirit back into the spotlight. Nancy always felt so connected to and supported by her fans, and I know so many of you felt the same way about her. Please take this opportunity to join us in being the reason that Nancy's music continues to bring joy, comfort and beauty to the world. I'm sure Nancy would be gratified to know that your Help is on the Way."
