The Garden of Dreams Foundation announced today that Darryl "DMC" McDaniels has been named to the Foundation's Board of Directors. McDaniels is one of the pioneers of hip hop music, a founding member of the popular group RUN DMC, a 2009 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and a Congressional Angels in Adoption Award recipient for his work with children in foster care and promotion of adoption.
"
Darryl McDaniels is not only a music legend, but a true leader and role model with the work he does to help children," said Hank Ratner, Chairman, Garden of Dreams Foundation and President & CEO, The
Madison Square Garden Company. "Darryl's work in the community is extensive, making him a perfect fit to become a key part of our Foundation. His addition to our Board will further support the Foundation's mission to use the power of
Madison Square Garden to make dreams come true for children facing obstacles and his commitment to children will only enhance our efforts in the community."
"I am thrilled to serve as a Board member for an organization that makes such a profound impact on children," said McDaniels. "I have participated in a few of their many events and have seen first-hand that Garden of Dreams gives children a chance to explore their dreams and exposes them to opportunities they would not experience anywhere else."
