From June 15 through July 7, 2007 at chashama, Thirsty Turtle Productions will present Howard Richardson and William Berney's Dark of the Moon.
Directed by Ian R. Crawford, the show is a "modern retelling of this theater classic explores the relationship between sexuality and the power of religion in America. Set deep in the Appalachian Mountains, Dark of the Moon is a timeless tale of magic, fate and doomed romance. From the moment young Barbara Allen sings the lyrics to her favorite song (about a young witch boy who falls in love with a mountain girl), it is clear that the future of the two young lovers will not be good. Despite the fact that their fate has been decided, that they are forever stuck in a history that seems to cycle like the refrain of a song, the characters in the play cling to the hope that perhaps just this once things will turn out all right. And if they don't, at least there is a lesson to be learned," state production notes.
The production will feature the talents of: Renee Delio, Adalgiza Chemountd, Sarah Hayes Donnell, Noah Dunham, Adam Fujita, Matthew Hadley, Russel Harder, Jessica Howell, Chris Masullo, Brendan Norton, Katey Parker, Amanda Peck, Minna Richardson, Dennis X. Tseng and Jake Thomas.
The production features scenic design by Emily French, costume design by Leyla Sogut, puppet design by Dakotah West and lighting design by James Bedell. Meg McCrossen is the music director, Duncan Cutler is the sound designer, and Jillian Zeman is the production stage manager. The production will be performed in cooperation with the Richardson/Yale Property Trust; Elliot S. Blair, administrator.
