Darius de Haas Flies into Birdland for Concert, Jan. 30

Broadway's Darius de Haas will be performing in concert at Birdland (315 W. 44th Street), Monday, January 30 at 7pm.  This evening is part of The Winter Season, presented by Jim Caruso and TheaterMania.com, which features top Broadway performers and composers at the legendary club.

de Haas will perform a combination of material from his acclaimed Stevie Wonder and Billy Strayhorn-themed Lincoln Center concerts, along with a few new originals.  Bruce Barth will be at the piano and Kenny Brescia will be featured on guitar.  "There will also be a surprise appearance by an extra-special guest star, who will duet with de Haas," according to press notes.

de Haas has been seen on Broadway in Rent, Carousel, Marie Christine, Kiss of the Spider Woman and The Gershwin's Fascinating Rhythm.  He won the Obie Award for his performance in The Running Man, and has been a soloist in concerts at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, London's Royal Festival Hall and LA's Disney Concert Hall.  Most recently, Darius has been traveling as special guest of Vanessa Williams in her national concert tour. 

"Birdland has been a world-class music room on the Manhattan nightclub scene since 1949.  Jazz superstars Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dinah Washington, and more recently Ann Hampton Callaway, Diana Krall, John Pizzarelli and Tito Puente have all performed on the Birdland stage.  The room offers top-flight music in a world-class setting, good sight lines and acoustics, and a menu featuring award-winning Southern cuisine, available until 1am.  Most recently, it's become the home of Cast Party, the weekly Monday late night showbiz gathering featuring impromptu performances by the Broadway, jazz and nightclub crème de la crème."
