Truth really is stranger than fiction-and much funnier when it's in the form of Orthodox Jewish transsexual comic Dana Friedman. On Monday, June 9th she'll bring LGBT Comedy Soup to world-famous cabaret The Metropolitan Room. What better way is there to celebrate LGBT Pride than fifty shades of gay, lesbian, and transgender laughs?
Ms. Friedman addresses a wide variety of topics, including many outside the very unusual norms of standup comedy. She has performed at New York's Gotham Comedy Club, theaters and conventions in the New York tri-state area and the Midwest, and is thrilled to be returning to The Metropolitan Room for this one-night-only event.
Joining Dana Friedman at "LGBT ComedySoup" are comics Frank Liotti, Emma Willmann, Kate Hendricks and Danny McWilliams.
Frank Liotti is a stand-up comic living in New York City. His character-driven act outs and stream of consciousness have won him praise in the prestigious Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, the Boston Comedy Festival, the Laughing Devil Comedy Festival, the Los Angeles Comedy Festival and the Long Island Laugh Off, and he's been a finalist in every festival he's entered to date. In addition, he recently filmed a pilot for MTV's Logo network, and was seen headlining at Carolines on Broadway as part of their "Break Out Artist" series.
Emma Willmann-originally from a tiny town in Maine, Emma Willmann always wanted to be in entertainment. Originally she wanted to be a hip-hop music executive, then a casting agent for music video girls (Puerto Rican, specifically). When that didn't work out...she got became a comedian!
Emma has performed in The New York Comedy Festival, the Women in Comedy Festival, hosted the Hoboken Comedy Festival, appeared on AxisTV Live at Gotham Comedy Club, and on ComedyTimeTV. She was in the Elite 8 in Carolines Comedy Club 2014 March Madness Competition, actively takes acting and hosting for TV classes, and performs every single night of the week in NYC or Boston.
Kate Hendricks is a comedian and writer living in NYC. As a stand-up, she has appeared on Nickelodeon's Nick Mom's Night Out and on ABC's "The View". She created and acts in the web series "Kate the Wasp", which follows a fictionalized white woman as she attempts to experience new cultures. She is a contributing writer to Cosmopolitan magazine.
Danny McWilliams has been a fixture in the standup comedy world since 1985. He was a founding member of the renowned standup comedy team Funny Gay Males. He has appeared on The Howard Stern Show, The Joan Rivers Show and many others, and has written special material for comedian Margaret Cho.
