Dan Fogler Sets Sail for Off-Bway's Voyage of the Carcass

Tony-winner Dan Fogler will return to the NY stage in Dan O'Brien's farce The Voyage of the Carcass, playing Off-Broadway at Soho Playhouse this fall.

Stage 13, LLC will present the Off-Broadway premiere of the play, which will be directed by Randy Baruh.  The Voyage of the Carcass begins previews on Thursday, October 5, for a limited engagement through Sunday, November 12.  Opening night is Monday, October 16 at 8 PM. 

"When their Polar expedition goes awry, only three members of the  doomed SS Carcass remain—Bane Barrington, a buffoonish explorer; ship's Chaplain Kane, a rector in drag; and Israel, their mute (and Canadian) first mate. After 40 years trapped in the ice, will they make it home alive?  But first, they'll take a five-minute break,  explore themselves, their roles, and their "issues" as actors dealing with an artic blast all their own.  Bill is a struggling mime; his wife Helen is an ad exec and erstwhile actress; Dan is a passive-aggressive puppet master (that is to say, the playwright)," state production notes.

The ensemble cast features 2005 Tony Award-winner Dan Fogler, Noah Bean (Romance at the Mark Taper Forum) and Kelly Hutchinson (Homebody/Kabul at NYTW; Romola & Nijinsky at Primary Stages).

Fogler won a Tony Award for creating the role of William Barfee in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and also played the role in C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E, Spelling Bee's source play. New York credits include Joe Fearless, Bridges and Harmonies and Bobby Gould in Hell.  He will appear in numerous upcoming films, including The Marconi Bros., School for Scoundrels, Good Luck Chuck and Balls of Fury.

O'Brien is the recipient of a 2006-07 Hodder Fellowship at Princeton University.  His plays include The Dear Boy (Second Stage Theater), Moving Pictures (Williamstown Theater Festival), Key West (Geva Theater Center), and Am Lit (Ensemble Studio Theater).  His plays have been developed at the Roundabout  Theater Company, Atlantic Theater Company, New York Theater Workshop, O'Neill Playwrights Conference, Primary Stages, Magic Theatre, The New Harmony Project, Rattlestick and Manhattan Theater Club, where he was recently a playwright-in-residence. 

The performance schedule is Monday, Wednesday – Friday at 8:00 PM; Saturday at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM; and Sunday at 3:00 PM. Performances are at Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street, between 6th and Varick).
