Catch a glimpse of DRUMSTRUCK, the world's first interactive drum-theatre experience, on National Public Radio's "News and Notes with Ed Gordon" tomorrow, Friday, May 13.
"News and Notes with Ed Gordon" can be heard on in New York on WNYC-am (820.am) and WNYE-fm (91.5fm) from 9:00am to 9:30am. Check radio listings for times and stations outside New York. NPR's Allison Keyes interviews DRUMSTRUCK company members Nicholas "Africa" Djanie and Ayanda Nhlangothi, and director David Warren.
Direct from sold-out engagements in Johannesburg, South Africa and Sydney, Australia, DRUMSTRUCK makes its American debut off-Broadway at Dodger Stages Stage 2 (340 West 50th Street, NYC) directed by David Warren. DRUMSTRUCK begins preview performances tonight, Thursday, May 12. The official opening date will be announced soon.
DRUMSTRUCK provides a 2-foot-tall drum on every seat - and the entire audience gets the chance to make music together. Featuring 11 South and West African percussionists, they start the show with a pulse-racing bang: song, dance and eye blurring drum performances. Then they lead the audience in an exhilarating experience of exuberant African drumming.
DRUMSTRUCK is recommended for ages 3+. The running time is one hour, 25 minutes with no intermission.
