Joseph John Productions presents his sixth cabaret benefit show DIVA-PALOOZA on monday April 11 2005 at the Hideaway room At Helens’s in Chelsea. The show is a tribute to the great Divas of stage and screen. But will have an all male cast including performances by John Schaefer (Golden Girls Live), Lawrence Merrit (Broadway Veteran Dancer), Chuck Klot, Gregory Couba, Colm Reily (Owner of Helen’s. Directing and also performing Peter Mac (Golden Girls Live and Judy and Me). Peter Mac And Joseph John are also brothers in real life who have worked together before on the hit show Judy and Me. Ben Bucher in the musical director.
The Evening will be a tribute to those great Divas of the stage and screen such as Julie Andrews, Ethel Merman, Bebe Neuwirth, Bernadette Peters, or include numbers from great diva moments such as Jennifer Holiday and Stephanie Mills. The show will be performed by 8 male singers who have chosen their favorite divas.
Showtime is at 8:00 pm cover charge is $15 cash or credit card plus a $15 minimum for food or drink. Dinner seating begins at 7pm. Continuing his goal of creating cabaret shows with a charitable vision, the proceeds from this evenings show will benefit Classical Action and The Performing Arts against AIDS. A Broadway Cars Equity Fights Aids affiliate. Starting a year and a half ago Joseph John wanted to produce cabaret shows with charitable cause. He is a volunteer at Broadway Cares for over six years and decided that he would do more then just volunteer in the office after. After Producing the critically acclaimed Off Broadway hit Judy and Me he decided to make a change in the shws he produced starting his cabaret benefit series of shows. Since he has started he has raised over $10,000 for Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids. Funding the shows out of his own pocket and donating all the money to the cause.
Previous shows produced by Joseph John: “Judy and Me” (which ran off-Broadway for over 2 years), and three benefit shows: “Searching for Aurora” (Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative) September 2003, “Dancing for Life” (Dancers Responding to Aids) February 2004, and Free To Be Me (Gay Pride Performance) June 2004 (Broadway Cares).
