A gorgeous, young rock star ruffles the feathers of an already conflicted string quartet in Bay Street's first Main Stage production of the 2010 Summer Season, the witty and moving play DISSONANCE. Written by Damian Lanigan, DISSONANCE makes its New York Premiere on the Bay Street stage as egos, loyalty and love are put the test in this engrossing play about a string quartet in disarray. Lanigan is a writer for the BBC and has written a number of novels. DISSONANCE is his first play.
DISSONANCE centers around a professional string quartet in the midst of rehearsing for a once-in-a-lifetime performance at
Carnegie Hall. As the quartet bickers, the history of their entangled relationships unfolds. Tensions heighten further as the only woman in the group has a chance meeting with a successful rock star. DISSONANCE, a poignant show with moments of both comedy and drama, "plays on the heartstrings," says The Boston Globe.
Returning to Bay Street's stage is Tony-nominated Director,
Lonny Price. Price's Broadway credits include A Class Act, which he appeared in, directed, co-wrote and which earned a Tony nomination for Best Musical. Price also directed Broadway's 110 In The Shade with Audra MacDonald and "Master Harold"...and the Boys with
Danny Glover. He recently directed the film version of "Master Harold"...and the Boys starring
Ving Rhames. His stage and television credits include
Stephen Sondheim and
James Lapine's Passion and Sweeney Todd, both starring
Patti LuPone, and
Leonard Bernstein's Candide starring
Kristin Chenoweth. Price will direct the upcoming revival of
Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys with
Richard Benjamin and
Elliott Gould.
Mr. Price is leading a talented line-up of actors, including
Rosie Benton as Beth, the only female in the group (Broadway's Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Accent On Youth, Saturn Returns),
Daniel Gerroll as James, who as leader of the group worries about how and if his quartet can remain together (TV's "The Starter Wife", "Ugly Betty" and "Cashmere Mafia"),
Morgan Spector as Hal, a former student of James and love interest of Beth (HBO's "How To Make It In America", Broadway's A View From The Bridge and The Lion King),
Robert Stanton as Paul, James quiet but supportive brother (Broadway's Coast Of Utopia and
Mary Stuart, film's "Confessions of a Shopaholic"), and
Gregory Wooddell as Jonny, the rock-star interloper (Cymbeline, Some Men, and TV's "30 Rock").
The production team includes many Bay Street returnees including Chris Clark as Production Stage Manager back for his eighth season (Bay Street's Dames At Sea, Ain't Misbehavin'). He will be joined by Set Designer Jim Noone (Bay Street's The Night Season and Ain't Misbehavin'), Costume Designer

DISSONANCE begins previews Tuesday, June 1st through Friday, June 4th, with opening night Saturday, June 5th. The shows run Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Sundays at 7pm, with matinees on Wednesdays at 2pm and Saturdays at 4pm except during preview week. After the Tuesday, June 8th performance of DISSONANCE, there will be a talkback with the actors.
Tickets are $55 and $65 with a limited number of $99 subscriptions available which gives new subscribers 1 ticket to each of the 3 Mainstage shows. Tickets can be purchased at
