On Sunday, November 18 at 8:30 PM, composers Pepper Choplin and Randol Bass present an enchanting concert of holiday music, including the world premieres of Choplin's new cantata Christmas Presence and Bass' Victorian Christmas Suite and Laus Nativitatis, conducted by Choplin. Also on the program are Choplin's Come, Emmanuel! and Bass ' Symphony of Carols andGloria. Maestro Jonathan Griffith leads the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International, a powerful ensemble of voices.
On Sunday, November 25 at 2 PM, Maestro Jonathan Griffith will conduct DCINY's eighth annual presentation of Beecham/Goossens' 1959 full symphony re-orchestration of Handel's Messiah. Called "ravishing" by The New York Times, the annual performance of Messiah... Refreshed! highlights an international choir combining singers from the continents of Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia with featured vocalists Penelope Shumate, Soprano; Claudia Chapa, Mezzo-Soprano;John McVeigh, Tenor; and Christopher Job, Baritone.
On Monday, November 26 at 7 PM, Joseph M. Martin's cantata The Winter Rose will celebrate its New York premiere, conducted by Martin. Also on the program will be the music of Mark Hayes, featuring the world premiere of Hodie Christus Natus Est, A Carol Fantasia, followed by his Gloria. Both works will be conducted by Hayes.
On December 3, 2018 at 7 PM, Jonathan Griffith, DCINY Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, conducts the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International in Beethoven's famed Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 12 ("Choral Symphony") with its emotional and lyrical "Ode to Joy" final movement and Fantasia in C minor, Op.80 ("Choral Fantasy"). Ode to Joy is Beethoven's final complete symphony, composed between 1822 and 1824. It was first performed in Vienna in 1824. The words, taken from Friedrich Schiller's poem "Ode to Joy", are sung during the final movement by four vocal soloists and a chorus. Featured soloists include Warren Lee, piano; Danielle Talamantes, soprano; Natalie Polito, soprano; Claudia Chapa, Mezzo-Soprano; John McVeigh, Tenor; Peter Drackley, Tenor; and Christopher Job, Baritone.
