DARK HORSE A Musical Magic Show Comes to Dixon Place  Image

DARK HORSE at Dixon Place (121A Chystie Street) February 22nd 2018 is a multi layered Musical Magic show Starring Cassandra the Songstress of Magic.

Cassandra, "The Songstress of Magic" invites you to experience her journey as a magician. Through jaw-dropping sleight-of hand, innovative illusions, and musical vignettes of magic, Cassandra shares her story of keeping secrets and revealing heart.

The term "Dark Horse" refers to a winner that unexpectedly climbs to success. In this show, Cassandra confronts experiences with overcoming the obstacle of finding her voice (both literally and figuratively). While shining a light on issues of gender inequality, physical/mental struggles, and claiming her place in the artistic world as a magician, she emerges triumphantly in what can only be described as magic.

DARK HORSE is written and performed by Cassandra, who is also referred to as Manhattan's "Songstress of Magic". Cassandra exudes a unique sense of Old Hollywood glamour and a quirky sense of humor that the New York Times described as "Magical!" Born and raised in New York, Cassandra started performing at 8 years old. By 16, she began winning opera competitions. She studied voice at Mannes School of Music and Westminster Choir College. Her unique combination of powerful singing and sophisticated feats of prestidigitation has brought her around the world, to TV, and now to Dixon Place.

This production includes a performance by the Talented and vocally stunning female trio Vintage Harmonies (Lydia Pusateri, Madison Selfaison and Gabriella Z. Hernandez). The beautiful sounds of vintage harmonic singing are combined with a modern twist when the ladies take the stage!

DARK HORSE is musical directed by Ben Houghton, a musical talent that can often be seen working with the stars of American Ballet Theater. Ben is the founder of the incredible organization Broadway's Babies, where through fundraising concerts performed by some of Broadways finest, money is raised to send performing artists to teach underprivileged children throughout NYC as well as Internationally! Also performing in the musical ensemble of DARK HORSE is Brady Cudmore on drums AND Andrew Grau. Brady Cudmore is a dynamic songwriter, drummer, actor, and singer from Prince Edward Island Canada. Andrew Grau is an accomplished bassist hailing from Queens who has performed as band leader of his own quintet as well as with a variety of esteemed musicians.

DARK HORSE is Choreographed by Talia Putrino is a professional dancer, and choreographer and has recently had her choreography presented at the Peridance APEX showcase as well as the Steps Performance Lab Series here in NYC.

DARK HORSE costume design is by Rosann Ruiz. A true artist, Rosann brings her talent to creating new and innovative ideas in her costume design. Her work was recently featured in the New York Times.

Magic Consulting for DARK HORSE has been provided by Ben Nemzer, Mike Patrick, and Noah Levine. Ben Nemzer is one of the stars of the Off-Broadway show Monday Night Magic, has performed at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Mike Patrick is an award winning magician who's sleight of hand, has been admired by numerous celebrities including Natalie Portman, and Lindsey Lohan. Noah Levine has given live performances at Lincoln Center, the Rainbow Room, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and even stars in his own close up show "Magic After Hours" which the New York Times raved was "flat-out miraculous"
