Morgan James, Torya Beard, and Richard Amelius have partnered with PledgeMusic to for an exciting new concept album featuring the only all-female cast of Jesus Christ Superstar. Superstar Cynthia Erivo has just been announced as the project's Mary Magdalene.
On January 16, 2017, a powerful group of women came together at New York City's Highline Ballroom to lend their voices to a sold-out production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar. The stunning show left the audience abuzz with enough excitement to lead to a studio album.
Recording is set to begin in the spring with many of the original cast members returning to reprise their roles. Broadway alum Shoshana Bean will give voice once more to Judas Iscariot alongside Morgan James in her role as Jesus Christ. Erivo made her Broadway debut reprising her starring role as 'Celie' in the critically acclaimed revival of The Color Purple. She first played the role in 2013 at London's Menier Chocolate Factory, earning rave reviews. She also earned a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, as well as the Drama Desk Award, Theatre World and Outer Critics Circle Awards, a Grammy win and a Drama League Award nomination. A UK native, Erivo graduated from the famed Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
