Cuqui Jerez, The Rehearsal has its U.S. Premieres 10/12

As part of the fifth edition of Crossing the Line, FIAF's acclaimed transdisciplinary festival of contemporary arts, the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), in partnership with Performance Space 122 and the Performing Garage, presents the U.S. Premiere of The Rehearsal by Cuqui Jerez, Wednesday, October 12 through Saturday, October 15 at 8pm.

In this paradoxical, humorous, and intriguing work, Spanish choreographer Cuqui Jerez employs the regular process of the rehearsal, an integral component of traditional theater practice, as a starting point from which she explores and questions the audience's sense of reality.

The Rehearsal is part of a larger collaborative project, The Neverstarting Story, between Amaia Urra, Cristina Blanco, Maria Jerez, and Cuqui Jerez-four independent artists who work at the convergence of choreography, performance, video, and theatre, creating work that is not so much about mixing these disciplines as about generating a new artistic field that slides "in between" the familiar ones. In this project they looked for a way to collaborate without arriving at a consensus. Thus, while the piece represents a joint effort, each artist also maintains her creative autonomy.

The Rehearsal is created and performed by Maria Jerez, Cristina Blanco, Cuqui Jerez, Amaia Urra and Gilles Gentner, and directed by Cuqui Jerez.

About Cuqui Jerez
Cuqui Jerez studied dance in Madrid and New York. In 1987, she graduated from Madrid's Real Conservatorio de Música y Danza, with a focus in classical ballet. Since 1990, she has been working as a dancer and performer in several companies, films, and productions. She has created the following pieces: Me encontraré bien enseguida solo me falta la respiración (1995), Dígase en tono mandri" (1996), Hiding Inches (1999), A space odyssey (2001) (2001), The Real Fiction (2005); and The Rehearsal (2007).
