Alan Cumming,
Jackie Hoffman and others stars will take part in
An Evening wtih the Underminer: The Best Friend Who Casually Destroys Your Life at Joe's Pub on Thursday, February 23rd at 9:30 PM at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street).
In addition to Tony Award-winner Cumming (
Cabaret, the upcoming
Threepenny Opera) and Hoffman (
Hairspray), Cause Celeb's Nancy Balbirer (who directs and produces the show), Murray Hill, Lindsay Robertson (of
Lindsayism.com) and Cintra Wilson will read from Mike Albo and Virginia Heffernan's book of the title. The evening will also feature "the inimitable Dazzle Dancers," and the cast of Pu Pu Platter, as well as original music by Chris Wells and Rachelle Garniez.
"It's time to work through your pain -- with a salute to everyone's favorite Frenemy. A mix between group therapy, Comedy Central and Take Back The Night, performers will read excerpts from the novel and give hilarious real-life testimonials of their own run-ins with the Underminer in their lives. Plus, there will be live music and insane comedy. It's all for a good cause: the amazing non profit organization: 826nyc. Books on sale and door-prizes will be awarded!," promise press notes for the evening, which will be presented by Cause Celeb.
"826NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Services are structured around the belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success."
