Everything Sondheim, a new online and print source for news, information, commentary and analysis for musical theater enthusiasts who admire the works and career of Stephen Sondheim, is in the works. The legendary composer and lyricist has personally approved the new venture as a resource for continued discussion of his works.
As a contemporary website, http://www.EverythingSondheim.org, the endeavor will provide up-to-the-minute online news and information about Sondheim productions. Behind a pay wall ($35 annually), subscribers will have access to in-depth analysis, insightful features and timely interviews with performers and directors. Twice annually subscribers will receive a collectible magazine filled with features, photos and insights. Each issue will have a theme, such as the anniversary of a Sondheim show.
Everything Sondheim's editorial team is comprised of professional journalists, theater professionals and educators who formerly produced The Sondheim Review, a quarterly magazine. The new venture's executive editor and publisher is Rick Pender, a past chair of the American Theatre Critics Association, who served as TSR's managing editor from 2004 to 2015.
A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to generate the start-up budget for Everything Sondheim. An initial goal of at least $20,000 is sought. In subsequent years, Pender and his team anticipate that subscription revenue will support operations.
Everything Sondheim is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Everything Sondheim are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law so long as they are made payable to Fractured Atlas. Online contributions can be made via a link to Fractured Atlas; contributions can be mailed to Everything Sondheim, 1201 Jackson St., #4, Cincinnati OH 45202. Contributors to the crowdfunding campaign at the $50 or more level will receive a first-year subscription; donors of $100 to $499 will receive two year's of news and information. Donors above $500 will have multi-year access and are eligible to receive an autographed book. In particular, the first three donors of $1,000 or more will receive "The Hat Box," the two-volume set of lyric studies, Finishing the Hat (2010) and Look, I Made a Hat (2011), personally autographed by Mr. Sondheim.
