Following the success of their inaugural season, which included NYT Critic's Pick Lone Star Spirits by Josh Tobiessen, Crowded Outlet, is announcing a season of new work created by multi-disciplinary artists with their new Generator program. The season will include Broders by writer and spoken word artist Alejandro Rodriguez (Sorry) created in collaboration with actor Frankie J. Alvarez (HBO's Looking); Misses (or The Red Tent Project) by Polly Lee (FX's The Americans) and Carolyn Baeumler (The Price); Untitled Tethering Project by Chad Goodridge (Passing Strange) in collaboration with 2016 Jonathan Larson grant recipient Nikko Benson; a yet to titled clown piece created by Richard Saudek (Eager to Lose) in collaboration with sound designer Jesse Novak (BoJack Horseman); as well as The Mother of Beauty, Death created by composer Marisa Michelson (Tamar of the River) and Constellation Chor.
Each Generator project will be developed and presented in workshop productions toward the end of the year. Venues, dates, and additional members of the creative teams will be announced at a later date.
"Last year, we created a rich and diverse pipeline of new work with our SURGE series and this year we wanted to find ways to help several of those project find an audience", says Artistic Director Wes Grantom.
Crowded Outlet's reading series, SURGE, continues in 2017 with new work by Pulitzer Prize finalist Eisa Davis, as well as work by Mashuq Mushtaq Deen, Vichet Chum, Andrea Thome and returning SURGE artist Meghan Brown.
"Each SURGE artist this year offers a unique perspective from individuals that we are so happy to fold into our community. SURGE allows us to enrich our community while also expanding it," Chad Goodridge says of the program.
