Open Call Audition dates: Sunday January 16th 10am to 4pm, Monday January 17th 2pm to 8pm at Chelsea Studios/TheatreWorks 151 West 26th Street

1st Rehearsal: February 14th, 2011

Performances: March 10-20, 2011 at the House of Yes in Brooklyn

All ethnicities are encouraged to audition for any and all roles. Actors must be comfortable with strong sexual content. All performers will be asked to sing. Please bring sheet music for pianist or prepare to sing without accompaniment.

Principal roles:

Caligula, Emperor of the Known World

Male, 20-35. Handsome, powerful Roman emperor, adored feared and desired by both sexes. He is a bratty child one moment and a violent tyrant the next. Must be able to forcefully lead a troupe of players and engage with an audience. Vocals: Dance pop lead tenor - solid Db to high F, touch low Bb, float hi G

 

Helicon, his Circus Master

Male, 20-40. The Master of Ceremonies. Extremely powerful, he is a slave who becomes Caligula's right hand man. Strong, violent, imposing to all around him. Should be comfortable with improv. Vocals: Hip-hop spoken rap

 

Drussila, his sister

Female, 20-30. Caligula's sexy, beautiful sister. She is seduced and then killed by Caligula. Vocals: Legit lyric mezzo - solid C to A (non-belt), touch low G, float hi E

 

Caesonia, his wife

Female, 20-40. Icy soprano. Caligula's strong, powerful, gorgeous wife. So imposing that men only want to look at her, but never think they could have her. A goddess, in mind and body. Vocals: Legit lyric soprano - F# to hi F# ("aahs" only)

 

 

Sulla, a Peanut Vendor and prophet

Male, 30-50. The omnipresent observer. Winds through the audience selling peanuts to the proceedings, must be very comfortable with improv and audience interaction.

 

Incitatus/Jesus, a horse and a savior

Male, 20-35. An actual Jesus figure. Close visual match preferred but not required. Fights Caligula in the wrestling match. Must have a peaceful persona and a strong presence.

 

Aerialists

Male and female, all ages. Seeking artists to create their own acts within the context of the show. Can include (but not limited to) silks, cloud swing, trapeze. Dancers and models

Female, all ages. Seeking stunning, amazon-built women to be Caligula's slaves. Some nudity preferred but not required. Vocal, dance and acting skills a plus but not required.

 

Slaves, super freaks, dancers, wrestlers, and denizens of the cosMic Pool

Male and female, all ages. Speaking and non speaking roles. Some nudity preferred but not required. Seeking circus performers, belly dancers, contortionists, wrestlers, body builders, midgets, transsexuals and others to create Caligula's circus troupe of adoring disciples. Looking for all shapes, sizes, looks, and unusual talents. Vocal, dance and acting skills a plus but not required. Callis and Caden (singing roles) will be cast from the chorus. Callis speak-sings Eb to Bb, and touches a low Bb. All vocal types singing dance pop, Gospel, hip-hop, & chorus backups including:

Soprano: up to C# belt, float hi E

Alto: down to low G

Tenor: up to hi F#

Baritone: down to C
