As previously reported by BroadwayWorld, the Minneapolis' Children's Theatre Company's 2015-16 season, announced last February, was to include the April 12th opening of a new musical based on Jeff Kinney's best-selling book series, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, with a score by Jonathan Larson Award and Ed Kleban Award winner Joe Iconis (THE BLACK SUITS, THINGS TO RUIN), a book by Joe Tracz (BE MORE CHILL w/Iconis).

The company's website now credits the score being written by the team of Michael Mahler and Alan Schmuckler (HOW CAN YOU RUN WITH A SHELL ON YOUR BACK?) with a book by Kevin Del Aquila (ALTAR BOYZ).

Direction and choreography is by Joseph Jefferson Award winner Rachel Rockwell.

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID tells the story of Greg Heffley, who is always in survival mode. From bullies to his big brother to his height-challenged stature, Children's Theatre Company describes him as the wimpy kid we can all relate to, adding, "The beloved series hits the stage in a brand-new musical with Rowley, Manny, and of course, Rodrick joining in the mayhem. A ridiculous amount of fun for anyone who has survived, is surviving, or hopes to survive middle school, inspired by the award-winning and bestselling book series."

"I am thrilled to be collaborating with Children's Theatre Company on a musical stage adaptation of DIARY OF A WIMPY KID," says Kinney. "To see my stories and characters come to life and set to music is exciting and I can't wait to see Greg Heffley and his family take the stage."

Children's Theatre Company began as The Moppet Players, a small company that produced creative dramatics, dance and theatre for children. In 1965, The Moppet Players moved into Minneapolis Institute of Arts and in 1975 was incorporated as Children's Theatre Company. The Theatre's reputation was built on a history of adapting classic children's literature and storybooks. Today, CTC is recognized as North America's flagship theatre for young people and families as well as a major cultural and artistic resource in Minnesota. CTC has been dedicated to advancing the art of theatre for families and young audiences for 50 years.
