The two new musicals that will be presented as part of The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's Music Theatre Conference in Waterford, CT from July 15th through 29th will be studded with starry casts. Veanne Cox, Jenn Collela, Anne L. Nathan and Megan McGinnis are among the performers set to take part in the shows, which will be presented at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.
Kiki Baby (running from July 15th through 21st) and
Triangle (running from July 22nd through 29th) will receive developmental productions.
Kiki Baby, with book by
Lonny Price (
A Class Act), music by Grant Sturiale and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh, will star Collela (
Urban Cowboy), Cox (
Caroline, or Change), Nathan (
Assassins),
William Parry, Alison Briner, Dan Sharkey, Colby Foytik,
David Pittu,
Mary Pat Gleason,
Adam Heller, and Phyllis
Somerville.
The show concerns "a four-and-a-half year old child prodigy (who) becomes the breadwinner
for her destitute family and greedy neighbors, resulting in hilarious
yet scathing results." It will be directed by Matt Cowart, with musical direction by Stan Tucker.
Triangle, with book by Joshua V. Scher, music by Curtis Moore and lyrics by Thomas Mizer, will feature
Colin Hanlon (
I Love You Because),
Heather Ayers (
Sarah, Plain and Tall), and McGinnis (
Little Women), as well as
Stephen Bienskie,
Jodie Langel,
Wayne Wilcox, Alicia Irving and David Brummel.
Triangle concerns how "the present resurrects the past and the past rescues the present in two
New York stories — one set in 1911 and the other in 2001." The show will be directed by Robert Longbottom (
The Scarlet Pimpernel, Side Show), and will feature musical direction by Dale Rieling.
Each musical will be developed by its writing team over a two week period before the shows are performed in readings.
Kiki Baby and
Triangle were chosen out of more than 100 submitted musicals.
"The O'Neill's National Music Theater Conference was established in
1978. Since then, more than one hundred works have been developed. Many
of the creators have gone on to win prestigious awards, and their works
and subsequent works have received acclaimed recognition in opera
houses, Broadway, off-Broadway and New York and regional theaters
