Cornerstone Theatrical presents Little Stories as part of the 20th Annual NY International Fringe Festival.
Little Stories, takes a fresh and zany look at some uncharted territory of The First Edition of The Brothers Grimm. A lively and tattered Medicine Show troupe bring to the stage tales and characters from enchanted fish to homicidal farm children. In a whimsical examination of moral tales that have influenced young and old alike for centuries, Cornerstone Theatrical is pleased to present Little Stories adapted by Jack Herholdt. The show will be presented as part of the 2016 NY International Fringe Festival, the largest multi-arts festival in North America.
Playing time is 90 minutes with no intermission.
In Little Stories, Grimm tales both familiar and never before dramatized come to life. A raucous troupe with a clown in tow use items they have collected on their travels to tell age-old tales to the audience. Using an array of performance styles including puppetry, vaudeville, clowning and music; this band of wayward entertainers subtly suggests once more that these tales are not merely of yore.
While the show features some stories such as "The Fisherman and His Wife" and "Mother Holle" that may be well known to folklore enthusiasts, other tales such as "The Bird Phoenix" have only been translated recently. All stories are faithfully adapted from the Grimm Brothers' first edition and alter from the more mainstream telling.
This production is a representation of both the source material's origins and the Fringe Festival's. The director, Michael Heitzler, explains "The Grimm's collected tales were meant to be heard by gathered listeners. Here, they are seen and heard through the lens of the 21st Century's experimental theater. In essence, we are returning to the roots of our source material, as well as our host, in this 20th Anniversary of the NY International Fringe Festival."
Little Stories will play the Kraine Theater on August 13th, 18th, 21st, 23rd & 26th . Tickets are $18. The playing company features Getchie Argetsinger, Jack Herholdt, Summer Dawn Hortillosa, Mickey Pantano, Garrett Burreson and Mark Woodard. Costume Designs by Jennifer Jacob, Puppetry Design by Jan Leslie Harding and Scenic Design by Scott Connor. For more information, visit www.fringenyc.org.
