Mon 10:00PM THE STRING MESSENGERS
(Uncle Murphy, guitar, vocals; Frank York, lead vocals, fiddle; Mandola Joe York, bass, vocals; Jon York, middle fiddle, vocals; Jeff York, electric guitar; Ratzo Harris York, bass)

The repertoire of the String Messengers is a mix of original material composed by band members as well as "classic" string band material from the likes of the Louvin Brothers, Jimmy Martin, Frank Wakefield, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Harry Smith's legendary Anthology of American Folk Music. Among the String Messengers originals you might be expected to hear are the true-to-life "Dumped On Valentine's Day," "The Heartbreak Diet," and "Better Off Bein' Lonely," the Herman Melville-inspired "Confidence", and the spirit-induced "Pastis." The band also traditionally closes every performance with its notorious philosophical diatribe "The Two Kinds of Men." The String Messengers are: Frank York, lead vocals and fiddle; Mandola Joe York, bass vocals and various double-coursed pluckables; Jon York, middle fiddle (a.k.a. "vy-o-la"); Jeff York, electric guitar and effects; Ratzo "Hatzo" York, bass; and Uncle Murphy, guitar and vocals.

Tue Jul 20
8:30PM THE BRyan Murray (HIPSTER BAND NAME) TRIO
(BRyan Murray, tenor sax; Terrence McManus, guitar; Jeff Davis, drums)
West Virginia native BRyan Murray began playing jazz saxophone at a young age and has devoted most of his life to studying and performing. He attended the University of Kentucky, then moved to Chicago and attended DePaul University where he performed with jazz legends including Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner and Nicholas Payton, and recorded a live CD with Tom Harrell.
The BRyan Murray (Hipster Band Name) Trio, which features guitarist Terrence McManus and drummer Jeff Davis alongside tenor saxophonist BRyan Murray, reflects a non-traditional musical collaboration 2 years in the making. This "bass-less" trio draws from many free jazz sources and takes an open, experimental approach to Murray's original compositions as well as those by eclectic American songwriters whose music is less explored in an improvisational context, including Willie Nelson, Led Zeppelin and Elliot Smith.

The band--Gene Caprioglio - guitar & voice, Joel Darelius - bass & voice, Paule Diamond - soprano saxophone & voice, and Bob Goldberg - accordion & voice--first got together in 1993, with a handful of folk tunes, to play at a friend's wedding in upstate New York. Since then, they have developed a repertoire ranging from traditional Italian songs like "Bella Ciao" and "Funiculi Funicula", to modern classics such as "Volare", "Quando Quando Quando", and "La Vie En Rose" to originals like the mini-opera "Vino" and the cinematic "Hunger Suite".

Wed. 10PM DIRTY MAC AND THE BUMPER CROP BOYS
(Gene Caprioglio, guitar, vocals, clarinet; Jordan Ahiyan, percussion; Octavio Salman, drums)
Dirty Mac and The Bumper Crop Boys began as a late night jug band experiment at The Black Hills Playhouse in the Black Hills of South Dakota in the summer of 2003. Band leader Sam Williams (Dirty Mac) moved to NYC in 2005, and Washtub Bassist Chris Zeig followed in 2006 where they began the reformation of the group. Fellow South Dakotans Emily Fellner (accordion, trumpet, vocals) and Doug Strich (harmonicas) came to join them soon after. The band has had over 30 members, and as many instruments, before settling in on its currant line-up. Rounding out the group are Queens natives Gene Caprioglio (electric guitar, clarinet, vocals)and Jordan Ahiyan (percussions). Octavio Salman holds it all together on the drum kit. Original country, blues, and rock and roll music that always stays true to its jug band roots.
