Today, June 24, Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages) and stage and screen icon Marilu Henner (The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, Chicago) will headline private industry readings of the new Broadway-bound musical GETTIN' THE BAND BACK TOGETHER in midtown Manhattan.
Featuring music and lyrics by Mark Allen, book by Ken Davenport and The Grundleshotz, and additional material by Sarah Saltzberg, GETTIN' THE BAND BACK TOGETHER is a rockin' valentine to the Garden State, directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando (Urinetown). Hailed by The New York Times as "playful, good-natured and genuinely funny," the critically acclaimed new musical had its world-premiere production at George Street Playhouse last fall (September 24 - October 27, 2013). The original cast recording is now available on iTunes.
When Mitch (Constantine Maroulis) gets fired from his Wall Street job on his 40th birthday, he has no choice but to move back in with his mom (Marilu Henner) ... in New Jersey.
On his first day back, his best friend from high school suggests that they "get the band back together!" Mitch thinks his buddy is crazy. But when his arch nemesis from high school threatens to foreclose on his house unless he agrees to a re-match of their infamous battle of the bands, Mitch realizes he may have no choice.
Today's readings feature Natalie Venetia Belcon (Matilda, Avenue Q) and will reunite original members of the George Street Playhouse cast, including Heather Brave (Circle of Friends), Evan Daves (The Coast of Utopia), Michelle Duffy (Leap of Faith), Ryan Duncan (Soul Doctor), Christopher Gurr (Memphis national tour), Jay Klaitz (High Fidelity), Garth Kravits (The Drowsy Chaperone), Emily McNamara (Around the World in 80 Days), Adam Monley (Mamma Mia!), Manu Narayan (Bombay Dreams), Brandon Williams (Blood Brothers national tour) and Tad Wilson (Wonderland).
GETTIN' THE BAND BACK TOGETHER is produced by Ken Davenport (It's Only a Play, Kinky Boots), Hunter Arnold (Mothers and Sons, The Bridges of Madison County), Roy Putrino (It's Only a Play), Richard Roth and Carl Daikeler (The Bridges of Madison County, Macbeth).
The Grundleshotz is a group of performers and writers comprised of Sebastian Arcelus, Fred Berman, Michael Hirstreet, Jenna Coker Jones, Craig Jorczak, Nathan Kaufman, Jay Klaitz, Emily McNamara, Jennifer Miller, Bhavesh Patel, Sarah Saltzberg and Fletcher Young, who helped develop GETTIN' THE BAND BACK TOGETHER through a series of improvisational rehearsals.
