Constantine Maroulis, former American Idol contestant and ROCK OF AGES leading man, spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming Rock of Ages film and what he thinks of the casting news and rumors.

"I think the guy's amazing, and I think he would just crush it," he said of Tom Cruise, who is in the final stages of being cast as Stacee Jaxx, as Broadway World reported this morning. "[Stacee Jaxx] would be a great role for him because he can use all his ability and put it into this character."

Maroulis was the sixth-place finalist on the fourth season of the reality television series American Idol, and lead vocalist of the hard rock band Pray for the Soul of Betty. He received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his role as Drew in the original Broadway cast of ROCK OF AGES.

He could also picture Gwyneth Paltrow as the Rolling Stone journalist who busts into "Dead or Alive" with Stacee Jaxx: "I could see them bust into 'Wanted Dead or Alive,' together...with black-framed glasses, hair up-in-a-bun, who lets loose a little."

ROCK OF AGES opened on April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre to critical acclaim, following an off Broadway engagement in the fall of 2008. The Broadway production was nominated for Five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and New Line Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording in July 2009, featuring 28 songs from the show. The New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. film of the musical, directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), is scheduled to be released in 2011.
