Talkin to press on the Academy Awards red carpet, ROCK OF AGES film director Adam Shankman confirmed the news that's been reported constantly over the last couple of weeks and Tom Cruise is indeed set to play the role of Stacee Jaxx in the film.
Last week, Constantine Maroulis, former American Idol contestant and ROCK OF AGES leading man, spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming Rock of Ages film and what he thinks of the casting news and rumors.
"I think the guy's amazing, and I think he would just crush it," he said of Tom Cruise, who is in the final stages of being cast as Stacee Jaxx, as BroadwayWorld reported. [Stacee Jaxx] would be a great role for him because he can use all his ability and put it into this character."
Well, Tom brough his family to see the show in LA last weekend and here's a photo of the pair together!
Maroulis was the sixth-place finalist on the fourth season of the reality television series American Idol, and lead vocalist of the hard rock band Pray for the Soul of Betty. He received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his role as Drew in the original Broadway cast of ROCK OF AGES.
ROCK OF AGES opened on April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre to critical acclaim, following an off Broadway engagement in the fall of 2008. The Broadway production was nominated for Five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and New Line Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording in July 2009, featuring 28 songs from the show. The New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. film of the musical, directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), is scheduled to be released in 2011.
