First reported by BroadwayWorld.com back in December, the Hollywood Bowl has now officially confirmed that they have chosen their summer musical... Drum roll please... HAIRSPRAY! The Hollywood Bowl has been knocking these musicals out of the ballpark these last three years with LES MISERABLES, GUYS & DOLLS and RENT.

And, it seems that they put their finger on the pulse of choosing populist musicals. The first two were directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and last summer's RENT was directed by Neil Patrick Harris, so the big question is who will direct HAIRSPRAY let alone who might star and who will choreograph this extremely dance-HEAVY show. Those questions are expected to be answered soon.

One thing we can tell you -- "You Can't Stop the Beat!" in the Summer of 2011!

Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score, Hairspray has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Viewers young and old will be shimmying in their seats as they enjoy hit favorites such as "I Can Hear The Bells," and "You Can't Stop The Beat." It's hair-hopping family fun in dazzling color and style.

The stage production was directed by Jack O'Brien with choreography by Jerry Mitchell and the film featured direction and choreography by Adam Shankman.

The film featured a remarkable collection of talent including John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, Allison Janney, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron and Elijah Kelley.

The original Broadway production featured Harvey Fierstein, Kerry Butler, Shoshana Bean, Laura Bell Bundy, Matthew Morrison, Dick Latessa, Todd Michel Smith, Linda Hart, Mary Bond Davis and more.
