PLOT SUMMARY:
A dramedy about a group of American prisoners who embarrass and irritate their captors as they try to escape from a German prison camp, Bevan and Trzcinski's plot revolves around the escape of an American who will face serious punishment for sabotaging a train (as will the fellow prisoners who hide him!) Filled with moments of tension and light the show proves to be a tense thriller keeping the audience on its toes! The entire action takes place in a Barracks of Stalag 17, somewhere in Germany during World War II.

CAST OF CHARACTERS:
S.S. Guard (young adult)- a typical Hitler youth grown up. Young, Loud, hates the Americans.

Stosh "Animal" (20s) - is the barracks clown, large and bear-like. Has a longing to be with Betty Grable.

Harry Shapiro (20s-30s)- "Animal's" bunk mate and constant stooge. Small in stature and as wise as they come.

Price (20s) - The Security man, is clean-cut in looks, obviously well educated and the "executive type".

Herb Gordon (18-20) - Young, excitable. Occasionally picked on by the other men due to his youth.

Hoffman "Hoffy" (30s) - the barracks leader chosen by the men. His voice is usually the quiet one of authority. His sincerity, kindness and interest in the welfare of the men have made him the obvious choice.

Sefton (20s-30s) - is a handsome but sullen young man dominated by an animosity toward the world in general and toward PRICE in particular. Sefton is what he himself considers "practical". His background has been in the world of "dog eat dog" and survival has been his chief goal, "back home" as it is now in the prison camp.

Duke (30s) - has a real chip on his shoulder for Sefton, and continuously accuses him of being the barracks stooge.

McCarthy (20s) - a listless soldier.

Horney (20s -30s) - is a great unbalanced ox of a man. His face is expressionless, and he has made no sound since his release from six months' solitary confinement.

Marko (20s) - The camp's newsman and mailman and...everyman. He brings the important information that all of the interred soldiers want to hear. Has a loud nasal voice and a quick talking mouth.

Corporal Shultz (50s) - German Corporal, light hearted, likes the Americans, enjoys toying with them. He bustles with efficient teutonic good humor and cheerfulness which almost conceal his innate cruelty and arrogance.

Dunbar (30s)- Recently brought into Stalag 17 and more specifically barracks 4, from Sefton's hometown of Boston. He is responsible for blowing up a German supply train and his arrival sets off most of the intrigue and action that will take over barracks 4.

Reed (20s) - Brought in along with Dunbar and a few others, he's the imitator, the man of 1000 voices. Should be able to or willing to research impressions of Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Carey Grant, Gary Cooper and Clark Gable. If you are interested in this role please have a few impressions of any actors ready so that we might see where your abilities are.

Peterson (18-20) - One of the younger soldiers imprisoned in camp, hasn't been there long so not quite as down trodden as the rest. Usually listens and interprets the radio for the other men in the barracks.

Red-Dog/Witherspoon/McKay (20s - 30s) - All 3 come in with Dunbar and Reed, new soldiers added to barracks 4.

German Captain (40s) - The sharp mouth of the camp's Commandant. Mostly barks orders over a loudspeaker but makes occasional visits to barracks 4 with Shultz.

Geneva Man (50s)- brought in to inspect the barracks, sympathetic to the Americans, tries to help with Pvt. Dunbar's unfair situation. He is well aware of the Nazi's lack of caring for their POW's.
Second Guard (young adult)- a typical Hitler youth grown up. Young, Loud, hates the Americans.
