Comedienne Elizabeth Tryon to Debut Solo Comedy Show, 2/19

Singer-comedienne Elizabeth Tryon will debut her first solo comedy and vocal music show in New York City, at the legendary Caroline's on Broadway Comedy Club in Times Square, NY on February 19, 2013 at 7:00PM, in a one night only performance. In her show, "There's A Phantom in my Opera," a contemporary Victor Borge-style show, written and performed by a singer rather than a pianist, Tryon unites several different styles of music with comedy.

Tryon presents classical singing alongside football penalty flags, juggling, talking on the phone, and a healthy dose of Broadway and pop music mixed in, thus reaching out to classical concert fans and first time concert goers alike. "As fans of classical music know, classical music does not have a great deal of comedy. I'm trying to reach an audience who would never dream of going to hear classical music in any form. In my show, I take a concert theme and play it for laughs, like a "Saturday Night
Live" sketch. It is a loving but funny homage to opera, Broadway music scores, classical music and pop concerts," says Tryon.

The show also features pianist Matthew Martin Ward, formerly musical director of two seasons of the Off Broadway comedy hit Forbidden Broadway, and Manhattan School of Music graduate, Bradley Lassiter, as The Phantom.

"Tryon is a rare performer who has both pop and classical chops, beauty and a great sense of comedy," said Elliott Forrest, Weekend Morning Host, WQXR Radio, New York's premiere classical radio station.

This is Tryon's second time performing at Caroline's. Last year, Tryon was a finalist and performed on PBS Television in WQXR radio's international comedy and music competition, called "That's Classic." Among the judges were comedian Robert Klein, opera singer Deborah
Voigt, Peter Schikele, and Charles Hamlen. The show was filmed at the venue and owner Caroline Hirsch herself was surprised at the full house the show commanded.

As a singer, she has performed with Broadway star Bob Cuccioli at a tribute concert to pianist Byron Janis, at the Walter Reade Theater atLincoln Center, at Feinstein's at the Regency, and at the Metropolitan Room, where Black Tie International Magazine described her as "a
magical talent to be treasured." She's had numerous solo roles in operas such as Cosi Fan Tutte, Daughter of the Regiment, Tales of Hoffmann with companies in New York City and abroad, and on numerous radio stations. She also performed improvisational comedy at the New York Comedy Club for three years.

Tryon grew up in Briarcliff Manor, a suburb north of Manhattan. She studied classical singing at Indiana University School of Music and in New York City, where she lives.
