New Village Arts will bring comedian Ritch Shydner to its stage on Friday, November 16 at 8 PM.  Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at www.newvillagearts.org or by calling (760) 433-3245.

Considered to be one of the best stand-up comedians in the country, Ritch Shydner brings his unique insights and observations to both men and women alike, enlightening them on what makes relationships tick. Throughout his career, Shydner has emerged as the well intentioned but poorly informed guy who is just trying to figure out relationships. He now shares his philosophies on relationships in a new one man show Your Man Is A Hero. Of his comic aptitude, The Los Angeles Times states "Few comedians can match Shydner’s eye for detail and ability to evoke the wrenching emotions attendant to the turbulent side of romance." The Austin Chronicle boasts "If I only have one life, let me live it as an audience member when Ritch Shydner’s on stage."

Shydner is one of the Pioneers of Comedy and can be seen starring in the documentary I Am Comic.  He has made numerous appearances on the David Letterman and Jay Leno shows, and before that Johnny Carson.  He did an HBO half-hour special,One Night Stand.  He played Al Bundy’s co-worker on Married with Children, and made guest appearances on many other TV shows, such as Designing Women and Roseanne.  Ritch was able to translate his success on TV into a film career, appearing in Steve Martin’s Roxanne, and Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop II.

Ritch has also worked as a staff writer on such sitcoms as RoseanneThe Jeff Foxworthy Show, and Titus.  He wrote scripts forBecker and other shows.

Most recently, Ritch was the Co-Executive Producer and head writer for the HBO show, The Mind of the Married Man.

Ritch wrote material for Jeff Foxworthy’s Grammy nominated comedy albums, Totally Committed, and Big Fun.  He also wrote for singers Kenny Rogers and Pam Tillis, as well as internationally acclaimed ventriloquist, David Strassman.

After working on I Am Comic — which details the world of stand-up comedy and documents Shydner’s return to stand-up — Shydner said his love for performing on a stage with a live audience was rekindled.
